Overview of Mkomazi Rhino Safari

Mkomazi National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is a hidden gem for wildlife enthusiasts. The park is home to the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary, a critical conservation area for the endangered black rhino. A safari from Moshi to Mkomazi offers a unique opportunity to witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, along with other wildlife like elephants, giraffes, and zebras.

Why Visit Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary?

Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary is one of the few places in Tanzania where you can see black rhinos up close. The sanctuary plays a vital role in rhino conservation, and visiting supports these efforts. The park also offers stunning landscapes, from savannahs to rocky hills, making it a photographer’s paradise.

Best Time to Visit in 2026-2027

The best time for a Mkomazi Rhino Safari is during the dry seasons, from June to October and December to February. These months offer optimal wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources. The wet seasons (March to May and November) can make roads muddy and wildlife harder to spot.

Great Wildlife, but accommodation could be better
Sarah L. · Australia · 20 Jun 2026

Our 3 Days in Tarangire National Park were filled with incredible sights. We saw so many elephants, including large family groups, and the baobab trees are truly majestic. The park is beautiful and the wildlife viewing was top-notch. Our guide was very good at spotting animals and navigating the park. However, the lodge we stayed at for the two nights was a bit basic and not quite what we expected for the price. While the wildlife experience was 5-star, the lodging brought the overall rating down slightly. We enjoyed the park itself immensely and would recommend it, but perhaps look into different accommodation options if booking a similar package.
